Reebok Presents : “CLASSIC” by Jonathan Mannion in Los Angeles, CA
Incase you are not familiar this guy is one of the BEST to ever capture artist’s portraits!
After a successful show at Art Basel in Miami, Reebok Classics teamed up again with photographer / director Jonathan Mannion to take his “CLASSIC” exhibition to Los Angeles during Grammy week. Another 17 images were carefully selected to add some west coast flavor, a female dimension and an R&B presence to the show. The expansion yielded a total of 52 prints on display. Continuing his collaborative series with artists, Mannion showcased the visual contributions from Nipsey Hustle, Pharrell, DJ Quik and Big Daddy Kane on their respective images.
The 2-day event was held at Milk Studios LA in the 15,000 sq. foot hangar where the photographs were displayed in grand fashion. The opening night event featured DJ Scoop Deville, DJ Choc of Beat Junkie & Shade 45 fame, a DJ set and impromptu performance by the legendary DJ Quik, and as the closer to the event and one of Mannion’s favorite artists, the legendary Big Daddy Kane tore the place down. Swizz Beats’ heartfelt words on stage made reference to Mannion’s dedication to his craft and the ability for a new generation to witness the authentic early moments from some of Hip Hops royalty from the mid 90s through present day.
To say it was “epic” would be an understatement, as true hip hop was celebrated by all those in attendance including Dom Kennedy, Beverly Bond, Rocsi Diaz, Shaggy, Omarion and many more. Stay tuned to see where Mannion’s show is headed next. A word to the wise, get your passports ready.
